Kdrop
Kdrop sends files, photos, contacts and text straight to nearby phones over your Wi-Fi. It has no account, no server, no ads and no analytics, and nothing goes over the internet.
What the app stores
Your device name, the contact card you fill in (name, phone, email and company), a random device ID and your settings.
Files you receive are saved in Kdrop's folder on your phone. The list of what you've received is only kept while the app is open.
What nearby devices can see
While Kdrop is open, it announces your device name (which starts out as your first name) and its random ID to every device on the same Wi-Fi.
So phones held together can find each other, it also broadcasts that ID over Bluetooth while the app is open. Anyone nearby with a Bluetooth scanner could see it.
Sending and receiving
Nothing is received until the other person accepts. Holding two phones together sends whatever you've picked to send.
Your contact card is only sent when you choose to share it.
Transfers go directly between the phones over Wi-Fi and aren't encrypted, so someone else on a shared or public network could intercept them. Use networks you trust.
When you open the text composer, it fills in what's on your clipboard. Nothing is sent until you send it.
Permissions
Wi-Fi and local network: to find nearby phones and transfer files.
Bluetooth: to notice when two phones are held together.
Location, on Android 11 and older only: Android requires it for Bluetooth scanning there. Kdrop doesn't use your location.
Sharing
Kdrop only sends what you choose to send, to the phone you choose. It doesn't sell your data or send it anywhere else.
Deleting your data
Change your name and contact card in settings. Received files can be deleted with a file manager. Uninstalling the app deletes everything, including received files.
Children
Kdrop isn't meant for children, since it shares names and contact details with people nearby.
Phone backups
If you've turned on backup to your Google account in Android's settings, Android may include Kdrop's saved data in that backup. The backup belongs to your Google account and isn't sent to me.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
Contact
Kdrop is made by Kidus Yohannes. Questions about this policy or your data: kidyoh789@gmail.com.
