Gauge

Gauge has no account, no ads, no analytics and no crash reporting, and it can't connect to the internet: the released app has no internet permission. Everything it measures stays on your phone.

What the app stores

Your charging history: when each charge started and ended, charge levels, power, temperatures, estimated battery capacity, and any charger names you type. The detailed curve of each charge is kept for 120 days; the summaries are kept until you delete them.

Your settings, alerts and calibration.

What it reads but doesn't keep

To show it on screen, Gauge reads information from your phone without saving it. That includes your installed apps and their permissions, and per-app screen time if you allow usage access. It also includes nearby Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices when you scan, your GPS status and Wi-Fi name, and how loud the microphone hears during the mic test.

The fingerprint test uses Android's own prompt; Gauge never sees your fingerprint.

Running in the background

The charge recorder runs while your phone charges and shows a notification while it does. The floating monitor appears over other apps only if you turn it on.

Permissions

Installed apps and usage access: for the app list, the permission explorer and screen time. You grant usage access yourself in Android settings.

Location, nearby devices and Bluetooth: for GPS status, Wi-Fi names and the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanners.

Microphone, vibration and biometrics: for the hardware tests.

Notifications, running in the background and display over other apps: for the charge recorder, alerts and floating monitor.

Sharing

Gauge doesn't share, sell or send any data to anyone.

Deleting your data

Delete individual charging sessions in the app. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes everything.

Children

Gauge isn't aimed at children and collects nothing from anyone.

Phone backups

If you've turned on backup to your Google account in Android's settings, Android may include Gauge's saved data in that backup. The backup belongs to your Google account and isn't sent to me.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
